NATIONAL SCIENCE MONTH-Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation

National Science Month is a month-long celebration held annually in the Philippines during September, in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 264 (s.2002). The celebration aims to foster interest in science, raise awareness of its impact on society, and encourage the use of science to solve global and local challenges. The theme for this year is, “Harnessing the unknown: Powering the future through science and innovation”.

The theme "Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation" for the 2025 National Science Month celebration highlights the critical role of science and innovation in addressing future challenges and creating new possibilities, emphasizing an active, exploratory approach to scientific discovery to drive progress.

Science has a tense relationship with society. As academic research is largely publicly funded, it is under constant pressure to justify its achievements to society (Kaldeway 2013, Weingart 2001). However, this narrative is not only viewed critically, but is sometimes even pushed by science managers, with the risk of weakening the autonomy of science, which in turn is the basis for high-quality findings and innovations.

In the coming decades, the relationship between science and society will become even more independent, requiring scientific literacy for the public and scientists to understand socieltal needs. This dynamic will be crucial for addressing major global challenges like climate change and public health crises, with science driving solutions while social, ethical, and political factors shape scientific priorities and acceptance of findings. The UN's declaration of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development highlights this critical connection as societies strive for more sustainable and equitable futures

RESILIENCY IS NEED TO OVERCOME CLIMATE CHANGE^^

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas.

This phenomenon has a big impact on all Filipinos. But this is where Filipinos are being tested for their resiliency. By facing all the phenomena like intense typhoons, rising sea levels, and increasing temperatures, the resiliency of all Filipinos is tested. It also has an impact on our agriculture, with disruptions to crop production due to changing rainfall and pests, but they still get up and try to plant again until they have a good harvest.

The Philippines is the third most vulnerable country to climate change, according to the 2017 World Risk Report. Impacts of climate change in the Philippines are immense, including annual losses in GDP, changes in rainfall patterns and distribution, droughts, threats to biodiversity and food security, sea level rise, public health risks, and endangerment of vulnerable groups such as women and indigenous people.

ISNHS INTRAMURALS^^

Intramurals is one of the best events in our school. When we can share our talent with others, like volleyball, basketball, archery, e-sports, etc. Here we can freely share our talent and win a prize and a chance to get into the national tournament. The theme is "Kakayahang Walang kapantay: Lakas at Determinasyon Tungo sa tagumpay ng Bagong Henerasyon"

At Ilocos Sur National High School in Vigan City, we celebrated intramurals on September 4, 5, and 6. The celebration began with a parade of athletes and participants, proudly representing their team. Followed by the speech of our beloved principal.

One of the best events that happened during the intramurals was the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2025-2026. Where every grade level has a representative to showcase their respective strands and grade levels' colors, confidence, and intelligence during the Q&A portion.

Afterwards, we proceeded to watch games around school. And we also volunteer to facilitate on E-sports games held on the stage in the field. There, we witness losing and winning in battles, and we also witness fighting for their spot in the game. Others were disqualified for many reasons.

We are also there to support our classmates and friends who joined this event. We watch and support them until they become champions in Call of Duty. But some of our classmates are lost in Mobile Legends.
